The calico silver-barite deposits near Barstow, California, are a potentially important resource. Exploration performed by two major mining companies outlined large tonnages of ore that assayed at 2 to 3 ounces of silver per ton and 7 to 15 percent barite. Laboratory beneficiation work was done by the Bureau of Mines on four samples to develop methods for recovering the silver and/or barite.
