This track uses Scenic Express #40 grade ballast, which looks just right to me in HO. I much prefer the working qualities of it to Woodland Scenics brand, and the cost is usually cheaper, at least on the Scenic Express site (last time I looked the WS cost $1 more per 32 oz container).
بیشترAnswer: Railway Ballast is the foundation of railway track and provide just below the sleepers. The loads from the wheels of trains ultimately come on the ballast through rails and sleepers. Ballast plays really important role in tracks foundation and further on works. There are many important an...

بیشترRail track ballast serves as a bed for rail tracks and provides drainage and strength for heavy loads carried by trains. Ballast is the description for the aggregate beneath the rail track. The track ballast forms the track bed that suports the rail track load and provides water drainage. Rail ballast aggregate is typically 30-50mm aggretate.

بیشترSize of Ballast. The size of the ballast used in railway track varies from 1.9 cm to 5.1 cm. The stone of size larger than 5.1 cm is not preferable due to poor interlocking property. The best-recommended ballast is that which contains stones ranging in size from 1.9 cm to 5.1 cm. The size of the ballast mainly depends upon the type of sleeper ...

بیشترBallast for railway modellers comes in many sizes and colours. You will need to choose the size dependant on the scale of your model railway, and the colour because of what was used at the location of your railway. Size is really important as over or under size ballast just looks wrong.
بیشترmovement. Ballast stones with smooth edges do not work so well. Ballast will be laid to a depth of 9 to 12 inches (up to 300 mm on a high speed track). بیشترBallasted track is a type of traditional railway tracks. Ballasted track is commonly composed of steel rail, railroad tie, railway fasteners and ballast bed. Theoretically, ballasted track is the creation of railway track development. In 1865, the basic structure of the modern track structure was completed.
بیشترTrack ballast (usually crushed stone), as it is known, is another important part of railroad infrastructure. Although it may just look like plain ole gravel this stone plays a vital role in acting as a support base for the railroad ties and rails as well as allowing for proper drainage of water away from the rails (which is why the stone is always sloped downward and away from track).
بیشترThe present prototype ballast specifications call for a maximum size of 50 mm with a large proportion of particles having a size of 10–30 mm. In the 1970s, ballast had a larger average size, with the majority of particles of size between 37 and 50 mm.
بیشترThe ballast profile for a long welded rail (LWR) track is shown in Fig. 8.3. The requirements of ballast for different types of sleepers on a BG railway line are given in Table 8.3.
