Hot cracking tendency test and simulation of 7075 semi ...

Abstract: The hot cracking tendency of 7075 semi-solid alloy under different conditions was studied by critical diameter method. The experiment and simulation results show that the dendrite arms of the rod grow from the edge to the center. The smaller the diameter of the rod is, the more obvious the directional growth of dendrite is, and the greater the tendency of hot cracking is.

Determination of the Hot Cracking Tendency of a Twin-Roll ...

Hot cracking often occurs in the so-called mushy zone, when solid phases and melt coexist, at temperatures where the material no longer exhibits ductility. For the evaluation of the hot cracking tendency of an alloy, the width of the HTBR (High-temperature brittleness range) can be used.

Prediction of hot tearing tendency for multicomponent ...

It is of practical importance to be able to predict the hot tearing tendency for multicomponent aluminum alloys. Hot tearing is one of the most common and serious defects that occurs during the casting of commercial aluminum alloys, almost all of which are multicomponent systems. For many years, the main criterion applied to characterize the hot tearing tendency of an alloy system was based on ...

Hot Cracking - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics

Hot cracking occurs due to the embrittlement of the weld metal or the partially melted zone (PMZ) during cooling between the liquidus and solidus temperatures or just below the solidus (Fig. 26).Hot cracks are characterized by their intergranular or interdendritic nature. Hot cracking is greatly influenced by the solute redistribution that takes place during solidification.

What are unweldable aluminum alloys?

Al-Zn-Mg Alloys such as 7005 will resist hot cracking better and exhibit better joint performance than the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys such as 7075. The Mg content in this group (Al-Zn-Mg) of alloys would generally increase the cracking sensitivity. However, Zr is added to refine grain size and this effectively reduces the cracking tendency.
